Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe

Cross Country Ski
and Snowshoe

When the shorter days and colder temperatures of winter set-in, it’s tempting to hunker down inside.  But with a little motivation and preparation, winter can be an incredible time of year to experience Asbury Woods.  Outdoor recreation during the winter is also a great way to continue with your health and wellness goals year-round.

If you want to take your winter recreation a step beyond a walk in the snow, consider snowshoeing or cross country skiing.  The trails at Asbury Woods are well-suited for both activities when there is at least 6” of snow on the ground.  Both activities are easy to learn and there are plenty of local spots to enjoy them.

Asbury Woods equipment rental program offers a great way to try out these new activities before investing in equipment and we even offer beginner clinics throughout the winter if you want some guidance to get started on the right foot.

If you plan to hit the great outdoors for winter activities, be sure to dress in layers and invest in some moisture wicking base layers to help keep you warm and dry.  It can be tempting to overdress but often you’ll just be chilly as you get out of the car but once you get moving, you will warm up!  A common mistake during the winter is to skip the water bottle but dehydration isn’t limited to hot, sunny days.  Cold winter days can fool you into not realizing how much fluid you have lost from sweating, shivering and the effects of the cold, dry air and wind chill.
