Homeschool Environmental Education Programming
Asbury Woods is thrilled to offer engaging programs with homeschooled students in mind! Families who participate in these programs can expect fun, hands-on learning experiences at Asbury Woods, pre-lessons to prepare students for their visit, and suggestions for extension activities. Programs with “EE” next to them address Pennsylvania state Environment and Ecology Standards. Parents may drop children off or choose to stay with them regardless of age.

Upcoming Programs
You can sign up for one of the programs below or get a group together and schedule a private lesson. Each of the programs below are 2-hour program for children in K-5th grades. If you have a group of children older than 5th grade, please contact us for additional options. Each child will get a certificate for their portfolio at the end of the program.
Snowshoe Adventures!
January 26, 2023 1:00 – 3:00
Put on your outdoor gear and join us for a snowshoe adventure in the woods! Kids should wear winter boots for this program. If there is not enough snow for snowshoeing, we will explore the woods in winter.
Weather Works
February 23, 2023 1:00 – 3:00
Students will explore, observe, and measure a variety of elements of weather then create their own weather reports in small groups. They will also learn about how many of the animals around Asbury Woods respond to changes in weather.
Maple Magic (EE)
March 23, 2023 1:00 – 3:00
Did you know that maple syrup is one of Pennsylvania’s oldest native crops? Come learn all about maple trees and their key role in Pennsylvania’s agriculture. Students will learn how maple trees make sap, how humans collect it, and how we use their sap to produce maple syrup. Students will also learn to identify various maple trees and investigate what plants do during different seasons.

Humans and the Environment (EE)
April 27, 2023 1:00 – 3:00
Overview: We rely on the environment for everything we have, so we need to take good care of it! Students will practice their recycling skills and learn about how pollution can hurt the environment with an impact of pollution activity and recycling rallies. Each student will practice reuse by making a birdfeeder from a recycled item.
