Volunteer Highlight | Cindy Gathers

At Asbury Woods, volunteers like Cindy help us fulfill our mission by assisting with property maintenance, staffing events, and greeting people in the Nature Center.

Cindy started volunteering at Asbury Woods in December of 2016. Since then, Cindy has logged 368 hours by staffing the gift shop, assisting with our annual festivals, and making maple syrup each spring.

When asked what her favorite part about volunteering at Asbury Woods was, she had a hard time narrowing it down. “Asbury Woods is just simply one of the most beautiful places in Erie. It's gorgeous in each season and a tranquil place away from everything. Second is the staff, volunteers and visitors. The staff is so welcoming, appreciative and helpful,” says Cindy.

Cindy greatly enjoys nature and people. Her roles at Asbury Woods combines these two passions, ”Working with visitors at the Nature Center and during events I get to meet so many people and I love seeing people enjoy the nature center, trails and all the activities.”

Her advice for anyone considering volunteering at Asbury Woods is “Just do it. You can do as little or as much as you like and there's many different activities you can choose to volunteer for. You will enjoy it!”

You too can share your appreciation of the environment with visitors, increase your own knowledge of the natural world, and spend time outside. Currently, we could use more garden volunteers.
