Asbury Woods receives PRSA Silver Award!

We are pleased to announce that Asbury Woods won a silver award for its "Year of Water" programming at the Niagara Awards held by the NW Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). This award was for programs or projects that advance public understanding of a societal issue, problem, or concern. This is the third year in a row that Asbury Woods has won an award through PRSA and the first time for programming of this nature.

Asbury Woods started a new approach to programming with The Year of Water in January of 2023.  Water is one of the world’s most vital natural resources and our region’s strategic location adjacent to Lake Erie makes the topic of clean water and sustainable use of fresh water a matter of local, regional, national, and global significance. With Walnut Creek, a major tributary of Lake Erie, passing through Asbury Woods' property, water was a natural choice to kick off our yearly themes.

"Our goal was to provide programs, forums, materials, and experiences that engaged people of all ages in a conversation about the importance of water and appreciation for this precious resource. We hope that individuals and the community as a whole learn how they can take action to protect water," says Jennifer Farrar, Executive Director.

Throughout the year, we partnered with topic experts who have added expertise for programs and lectures to provide research data and share new ways to view and appreciate water. In our exhibit hall, we started a new program, Trout in the Classroom, a national program that helps demonstrate the everyday relevance of healthy watersheds and engages youth in active stewardship.  We also held two public events, World Water Day and Fish Field Day, to invite the public to celebrate water and engage new audiences in water-related topics and themes.

We hope that you have enjoyed and appreciated our culmination of programming to highlight the Year of Water. We plan on continuing with a yearly theme to help spotlight our natural resources. Stay tuned for our next theme to be announced in January 2024!
