Outdoor Explorer Club-An afterschool group!

outdoorsAre your kids missing extracurricular activities? Do they miss hanging out with their peers?

Then send them to Outdoor Explorer Club!

Participants meet twice a week for nature exploration, physical activity, and safe socialization. The club is suited for grades 5-8 and is limited to 14 students.

The pandemic has touched every aspect of our daily lives, and our youths’ routines are no exception. Children are spending more time than ever in front of a screen and less time engaging with their peers because they are completing some or all of their schoolwork, and even extracurricular activities, remotely.

Recent research has shown that children are experiencing greater levels of loneliness and social isolation from their peers as a result of this pandemic. One reason for this has been a lack of access to their normal activities for socializing and relating with their peers. We also know that access to nature, outdoor exploration and participation in physical activity can be powerful sources for rejuvenation, stress reduction and emotional regulation. Since the pandemic hit our area in March, people of all ages having been using Asbury Woods trails, gardens, and open spaces to explore and exercise. Asbury Woods remains committed to providing opportunities for children and youth to connect with nature and engage in outdoor recreation, knowing that these activities will be essential for the well-being of our youth. With our 205 acres and over 5 miles of trails to explore, and our long experience conducting year-round outdoor programming, Asbury Woods educators are equipped to provide youth with outdoor recreation and nature exploration activities within Covid-19 safety.

Club members meet twice weekly on Mondays and Thursday, September through November and is open to students in grades 5 – 8. Participants should come dressed to spend most to all of their time outdoors and ready to experience new outdoor adventures.
