Asbury Woods Partnership officially takes ownership of the Asbury Woods Nature Center.
(Erie, Pa.) — Asbury Woods begins a new chapter as the Asbury Woods Partnership has officially taken over sole ownership of the property effective June 30, 2016. The transition comes just one year after the nonprofit organization and the Millcreek Township School District finalized a deal for the $1.5 million purchase of the Nature Center and Brown’s Farm properties.
“This is truly an exciting day for not just Asbury Woods, but the entire community,” says Larry Berrin, President/CEO, Asbury Woods Partnership. “It has always been our intention to preserve this treasured green space. We are so grateful for the community’s support and everyone who helped us get here. Now we can move forward and focus on the important work of maintaining and improving this regional asset for generations to come.”
Since its inception in 2000, the Asbury Woods Partnership has provided an increased portion of funding for Asbury Woods Nature Center annually. With the transition now complete, the nonprofit will provide all funding for community events, festivals and public programming — funding made possible through the generosity and support from the community.
“We’ve been looking forward to this day for a very long time,” says Kathryn Raimy, chair, Asbury Woods Partnership. “We are very passionate about continuing the great work of Asbury Woods, not just serving as a hub for environmental education for our region’s schools, but also providing people with the fun and exciting recreational experiences they have come to expect.”
