Animal Care Crew is a youth volunteer opportunity (ages 12-16) that offers experience working with and caring for a variety of live animals. Asbury Woods cares for many species of animals including mammals, amphibians, reptiles and fish.
This volunteer opportunity is great for anyone interested in a career involving animals, working with the public, education, environment or just wants to help Asbury Woods.
Once training is complete, the Animal Care Crew meets on Saturdays at 9:00 a.m.
If selected to join the Animal Care Crew, training will be completed during the regular animal care time of Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. Training dates will be coordinated with the Animal Care Supervisor; typically, training requires four sessions to complete. Once training is completed, volunteers will be able to self-schedule volunteer shifts through our online volunteer management system, Volunteer Matrix.
Following training, new members of the Animal Care Crew will join the veteran members during the regularly scheduled time: Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m. Most weeks, the feeding and cleaning takes two hours but there may be weeks that special cleanings need to be completed that will take more time. Variations in schedule will be announced in advance. Our expectation is that each member of the Animal Care Crew volunteer at least one Saturday each month.
